We Serve

Jesus said, “… I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others …” (Matthew 20:28). He is our example and has called each one of us as Christians to serve in ministry. The church exists to serve its both its members and its non-members. We are to care for one another as well as touch our communities with the love of Jesus.

At Open Heavens we want to be known by our community as people who reach out to those around us and who are not indifferent to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of others. Presently we feed the homeless in the parks on Wednesday mornings and Saturday afternoon. We offer literacy classes to refugees as well as help them establish new lives here in America. We also like to hang out on 4th avenue to play some tunes and talk with people sometimes on Saturday afternoons or visit a local assisted care home to visit and pray with the residents. Other ways we connect are through homeless women shelters, and homes for abused women and children.

Ways in which we are presently or have recently touched our community…

  • Provided school supplies and clothes and shoes to needy children
  • Reading programs to help children who are behind their grade level
  • Cooking schools and other health seminars
  • Donating supplies to Casas de los ninos—for families in transition
  • Fresh water and food to the homeless
  • McDonald House for families who live out of state but have long term care family member in the hospital
  • Supplies for the Brewster House for battered women
  • Stocking the community food bank and providing food baskets for needy families at Christmas and Thanksgiving
  • Providing food and supplies to the Gospel Rescue Mission and Youth On Their Own

In addition we…
